The Department of Agriculture in Hawaii has current concerns that Hawaii is currently importing about eighty-five percent of the food that is consumed in Hawaii. Another company received funding for a device that will be able to tell how many people are in a room and where they are. Basically anything that would give us an advantage over a country we may be at war with would be a good way to try to get grant funding for. I am going to go over a few of these titles and you will be able to see if this is the direction your small business in Hawaii is heading and then be able to prepare from there. The Department of Energy naturally deals with finding new sources of energy as well as finding better way to use the sources of energies we currently have.

One of the titles is nanotechnology which is a very specific field so you would know whether that is the type of business you are looking at. The next agency that we will look at for possible grant funding for Hawaii is the Environmental Protection Agency. This particular agency will assist in grant funding for such things as water pollution prevention and wetland protection. Basically anything that will assist in the reduction of pollution or the conservation of the world environment. With Hawaii surrounded by water and lush environment it is not a stretch to see this type of business in the area. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is one of these federal agencies that may be able to assist you small business with grant funding. Depending on what type of business you are looking at starting or that you currently have will be able to qualify you for this type of grant.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration deals with space and the solar system type projects. If your company is able to assist them in any way then this is the federal agency you should try and seek out for grant money.

The only other federal agency that we have not covered in at least one of our article is the National Science Foundation. We are going to look at what they do to better inform you as to whether this agency would be one that may be able to assist you in your pursuit of a grant.

There are five areas that the National Science Foundation usually takes grant proposals for. The first one that may be what you are looking to do is advanced material and manufacturing. They also take submissions for biotechnology, chemical-based technology, electronics, and information- based technologies. If any of these topics are something your business may be able to apply for, then the National Science Foundation is where you will want to look for a grant.

There are numerous ways to get the information on where to look for grant money the key knows how to actually receive the grant funding. The hard part is not knowing where to look for the grant information not that its not hard but its a lot harder knowing the guidelines and understanding everything you need in order to be able to apply for a grant.

What this program is suppose to be designed to do is assist people who are looking for a grant and live in Hawaii.

This program will assist you in finding a grant that best suits your needs and the best ones that you qualify for. The Small Business Innovation Research Assistance Program also has a website that you can go to that will better explain what they are and what they can do for you and your business. That website is http://www.htdc.org/sbir/about.asp and it seems like it a pretty easily navigated site as well so there should be no problem getting you on your way to getting the funding that you are looking for. Just a little reminder grant money is not without its cost there are requirements and information that you have to be able to provide at any given point and time.

Also, you may want to consider how many people are applying for the exact some grant that you are so there is a good bit of competition that goes along with grants. So, even if you were able to find the grant or grants that are best suited for you there is still a possibility that you will not receive the funding so do not count on that money until you actually receive it. The other factor to remember is these things take time to go through the entire process they can take up to a year if not longer to be able to receive the funds. If you do not feel your business in Hawaii can wait that long you may want to consider other avenues that would offer a quicker solution.

First we will look at the Department of Education and see if there is any grant information you may be able to use. The Department of Education as you may have guessed has grants available to help the education in our country. Most of the grant funding goes to non-profit organizations. There are some, mind you not a lot, of grants that may assist a small business in Hawaii with funding through grants.

As we have discussed in previous articles there are many places to look for grants when you want to start a small business the key is knowing what your business is going to accomplish and insuring you have all the information one would need to make sure you can not only meet your goals for your business but have the funding to relieve some of the stress to better your time reaching those goals.

The last bit of advice we would like to leave you with is, to make sure to make contact with the grant office to make sure things are going the way they should. However, make sure you keep it professional and try to not pester the grant office. Just a reminder these are just suggestions that may help you acquire the grant you are applying for these are not fail proof guidelines to live by.
